I would typically say that a trade with this talented of a player on a Tuesday morning would be huge breaking news, but lets be real – we all saw this coming a mile away. Davante Adams, the Las Vegas Raiders star wide receiver, not only gets traded to the New York Jets, but I’m sure also will miraculously recover from his hamstring injury that’s kept him out of the last few Raiders games.
Listen, I get it. You don’t have that many years left in your NFL career. He’s 31 years old, which in football terms is basically like getting the senior citizen discount at Dennys. He doesn’t want to spend the rest of his career trying to catch overthrown/under-thrown passes from QB’s that can’t be relied on.
Raiders are also in rebuild-mode. This team isn’t a Super Bowl quality team as is now – so this move makes sense on all sides.
In return, the Las Vegas Raiders receive a conditional third-round draft pick that could improve to a second-round selection. Which in simplistic terms means the Jets are giving the Raiders a third-round draft pick in a future NFL Draft as part of the trade involving Adams. The third-round pick could improve to a second-round pick based on certain performance or team-based conditions.
Conditional picks are often included in NFL trades to protect the interests of both teams. If Adams performs well or significantly impacts the Jets’ success, the Raiders get a better draft pick (second-round instead of third-round).
Now the biggest concern that I have is, now that the Raiders have officially shown their hand that they are in rebuild mode, what does that mean for Maxx Crosby?
This guy is the lifeblood of the Las Vegas Raiders and by far the best player on the team. At only 27 years old, theres still a LOT the Raiders can get for him if they trade, but will it be worth it to lose the backbone of this already fragile Raiders team?
We shall see…
